Filters can be found in Keenious on the left-hand side of the recommendations tab. These filters allow you to narrow down your results by variables like year, citation count, journal, author, and open access availability.
Simply select the criteria you want to filter by to customise your recommendation list and discover relevant research faster. Below we have outlined a few of our favourites.
Cited by Count Filtering
"Cited by Count" refers to the number of times a paper has been cited and is often used as an indicator of its quality. Sometimes, you may prioritise reading seminal papers that are highly cited. At other times, you might be interested in exploring lesser-known papers with few or even no citations. In both scenarios, the "Cited by Count" filter can be helpful!
The "Cited by Count" filter is listed in the filters section.
The citation count range you select will be applied to the results list. For example, if you set a minimum of 70 and click 'Apply Changes,' the list will only include publications that have been cited 70 times or more.
Press 'View Results'. The articles in the results list above will have a minimum of 70 citations.
Keep in mind that the results list will still be ordered based on relevancy to your input text. The most highly cited articles do not appear at the top of the list because they are not considered the most relevant to the input document.
Year Published Filter
Often, users want to find content from a specific time period or after a certain date. Want to focus only on the most up-to-date publications in the field?
That’s where the Year Published Filter comes in handy!
Go to the 'Year Published' filter and enter the date range you want the recommended articles to come from. In this example, articles will be from 2019 to 2025. You can also choose a tag.
The year range you select will be applied to the results list. Set the range and click 'Apply Changes,' .
Press 'View Results, ' and the recommendation list will only include publications published within those years.
Open Access Filtering
If you want to support those publishing open access (OA) research, or you don't have access to many paid databases, filtering by OA can help!
The 'Open Access' filter can be found listed in the filters section.
Simply select the 'Is Open Access' box and press 'Apply Changes'. You can also choose between different levels of OA publications such as Diamond,Gold etc.
Press 'View Results, ' and the recommendation list will only be OA publications.
All articles will be marked as OA publications.
Journal Filtering
If you want to have recommendations from a particular journal, you can search and filter by journal name!
The 'Journal' filter can be found listed in the filters section under the Type category.
Scroll through the list of. recommended Journals for inspiration or search and select the journal that you are looking for.
Once you have found the journal, press 'Apply Changes'.
Press 'View Results' and the recommendation list will only include publications published within those journals.
These same steps can be applied when filtering by author and conference.
By using filters in Keenious, you can tailor your research experience to suit your specific needs—whether you're looking for the most cited papers, the latest publications, open access content, or work from specific journals, conferences or authors.
